HRT and Menopause Treatment Online UK: NHS First, Private When Needed

How private online menopause and HRT services work in the UK, when the NHS is cheaper, HRT PPC savings, and how to compare GPhC-registered providers safely.

By Pick My Pharmacy Editorial · Updated 9 July 2026

How online menopause treatment works

Private online menopause services assess you clinically, then prescribe and dispense HRT or non-hormonal options through a regulated pharmacy where suitable.

Expect a detailed questionnaire and sometimes a video or phone review. Prescription-only treatments — including common gels, patches, Utrogestan, and non-hormonal Veoza — are only supplied if clinically appropriate. Online care does not replace urgent care for severe symptoms or red-flag problems.

Why the NHS route usually wins on cost

In England, NHS HRT items cost £9.90 each unless you hold an HRT PPC (£19.80 for 12 months) or another exemption. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland do not charge for NHS prescriptions. Private online HRT typically costs about £15–£35 a month for common preparations, with Veoza often higher — so private care is a convenience and access choice, not a discount route.

  • HRT PPC: £19.80 covers listed HRT for a year in England
  • Private gels/patches/Utrogestan: typically £15–£35/month
  • Veoza (non-hormonal): typically £40–£70/month, mostly private
  • Shortages and waiting lists are the main reasons people go private

What to compare between private providers

Look at which formulations they offer, whether follow-up is included, delivery times, and whether blood tests or specialist menopause clinicians are part of the service. Prefer transparent treatment-service pricing over vague “from” figures that hide consultation fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is private online HRT safe?

It can be when the prescribing service and dispensing pharmacy are properly regulated and you receive a genuine clinical review. Always verify GPhC registration and prefer services that coordinate with your GP.

Can I switch from NHS to private HRT?

Some people use private care temporarily during shortages or waits. Tell both your GP and the private service so treatment is not duplicated unsafely.

Does the HRT PPC cover private prescriptions?

No. The HRT PPC applies to eligible NHS HRT prescriptions in England, not private online supply.
