NHS Prescriptions

Compare pharmacies that dispense NHS prescriptions — nominate a pharmacy for repeat prescriptions, check delivery options, and understand charges.

Most community and online pharmacies in the UK dispense NHS prescriptions. In England, each item costs a fixed £9.90 unless you're exempt — the price never varies between pharmacies, so choose based on convenience, opening hours, delivery, and how repeat prescriptions are handled instead. Prescriptions are free in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. You can nominate one pharmacy to automatically receive your GP's electronic prescriptions, making repeat medication collection or delivery simpler. If you take several regular medicines, a Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) can cut your annual cost significantly — a 3-month PPC breaks even at 4 items, a 12-month PPC at 12 items across the year.

Ratings and rankings are our editorial opinion, based on our publishedmethodology — they are not medical advice and pharmacies cannot pay to change a score. Where a pharmacy has no reviews we show "Not yet rated" — we never invent scores.Listings labelled Featured orReferral partner are paid placements; payment affects visibility only, never ratings or match results. Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an NHS prescription cost?

In England, each NHS prescription item costs £9.90, frozen for 2026/27. Prescriptions are free in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Certain groups — including under-16s, over-60s, and people with some medical conditions — are exempt in England too.

Can any pharmacy dispense my NHS prescription?

Yes, any GPhC-registered pharmacy dispensing NHS services can process your prescription, whether it's a paper prescription you bring in or an electronic one sent from your GP. Nominating one pharmacy makes repeat prescriptions simpler but isn't required.

How do I switch my nominated pharmacy?

Ask your new pharmacy to update your nomination — most can do this in-store or online in a few minutes — or update it yourself via the NHS App if your GP practice supports it.
