Who can be prescribed it and how the consultation works

Viagra is a prescription-only medicine in the UK, licensed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult men. Every legitimate online pharmacy runs a structured consultation — a health questionnaire covering blood pressure, heart conditions, current medicines (particularly nitrates, which cannot be combined with sildenafil), and relevant history — which a prescriber reviews before approving, asking follow-up questions, or declining. It is only available at the 50mg dose — the 25mg and 100mg strengths remain prescription-only in both branded and generic form. Which product and route suits you involves both practical and clinical factors, which the pharmacist or prescriber will cover during the suitability check.

Safety, counterfeits, and side effects

Viagra is one of the most counterfeited medicines in the world, so buying only from GPhC-registered pharmacies matters more here than in almost any other category — counterfeit tablets sold through unregistered websites and social media may contain the wrong dose, no active ingredient, or harmful substances. Check any unfamiliar pharmacy on the GPhC register at pharmacyregulation.org before ordering. Common side effects include headache, flushing, indigestion, and nasal congestion; sildenafil must not be taken with nitrate medicines, which the consultation screens for.
