Pick My Pharmacy is an independent comparison service and not a pharmacy. Where a listing is a referral partner we may earn a commission when you visit them — this never changes prices you pay, ratings, or the order providers appear. Affiliate links use rel="sponsored" and are labelled “Ad – Affiliate”. For Prescription Only Medicines we promote the pharmacy’s clinical service, not a specific medicine, in line with the MHRA Blue Guide. See our affiliate compliance.

Private vs free NHS supply

Many community pharmacies supply emergency contraception free under NHS arrangements. If that route is available near you, it is usually the best first option. Private online or walk-in purchase is useful when free supply is not available or you need discreet delivery — compare our Levonelle page for the alternative medicine.

Timing

ellaOne can be taken up to 120 hours after unprotected sex. Earlier is better. A copper IUD fitted by a clinic is the most effective emergency method — a pharmacist can advise when that is the better route.

Safety

A pharmacist or online clinical questionnaire checks suitability. This page compares prices only — it is not medical advice. For urgent help call NHS 111.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ellaOne free on the NHS?

Often yes via participating pharmacies — ask your local pharmacy or NHS 111. Private purchase is the fallback when free supply is not available.

ellaOne or Levonelle?

ellaOne works for longer after unprotected sex (up to 120 hours). Levonelle is typically cheaper privately but has a shorter window. A pharmacist can advise which is appropriate.
