ellaOne vs Levonelle — which is better?
By Pick My Pharmacy Editorial · Updated 9 July 2026
Timing and effectiveness
Both reduce pregnancy risk after unprotected sex; effectiveness falls with time. ellaOne has a longer window. A copper IUD fitted in a clinic is more effective than either pill.
Cost
Check free NHS supply before paying. If buying privately, Levonelle is usually cheaper; ellaOne may be needed if more than 72 hours have passed.
