# Pharmacy Near Me: How to Find and Choose the Right One

How to find a pharmacy near you in the UK, what to check before you go, and how to choose between community and online pharmacies for NHS or private needs.

In short

Search your postcode on Pick My Pharmacy to see GPhC-registered community and online pharmacies serving your area, filter by the service you need, and check registration and opening hours before you go.

Who this is not for

A ‘near me’ search is the wrong tool if you need a medicine posted UK-wide from a distance-selling pharmacy, or you are trying to buy a prescription-only medicine with no consultation. Use the online-pharmacy guide for postal supply, and walk away from unregistered sellers.

## Why isn’t “pharmacy near me” always the whole answer?

The closest pharmacy isn't always the best fit — what you need (an NHS repeat prescription, a private travel jab, or a Pharmacy First consultation) matters more than pure distance.

A pharmacy two streets away that doesn't offer the service you need is less useful than one slightly further out that does. Before picking based on proximity alone, check whether the pharmacy dispenses NHS prescriptions, participates in Pharmacy First, or offers the private service you're after.

## Should you choose a community pharmacy or an online one?

Community pharmacies suit same-day, face-to-face jobs. Online pharmacies suit repeats and private consultations you can wait a day or two to receive by post.

Community pharmacies suit anything requiring a face-to-face consultation, a physical examination, or same-day collection — travel vaccinations, Pharmacy First conditions, blood pressure checks, and earwax removal all need an in-person visit. Online pharmacies suit repeat prescriptions, private consultations that can be done remotely, and anything you are happy to wait a day or two to receive by post.

## What should you check before you go?

Registration, NHS contract, hours, and delivery matter more than the pin on a map. Confirm hours before you travel — we never invent a timetable.

- GPhC premises registration number, checkable on pharmacyregulation.org
- Whether they dispense NHS prescriptions or are private-only
- Opening hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays
- Whether they offer prescription delivery, and any fees
- A private consultation room, if you need a sensitive conversation
- Wheelchair access and other accessibility needs

## Where do I find a late-night or 100-hour pharmacy?

Supermarket and retail-park pharmacies often open later. A small number hold extended or 100-hour contracts. NHS 111 can name the nearest one that is actually open.

If you need a pharmacy urgently outside normal hours, NHS 111 can direct you to the nearest one that is open. Do not assume a ‘near me’ result is open now — confirm hours with the pharmacy. Opening hours on this site are only shown when we have them on file.

## Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check if a pharmacy is properly registered?▼
Every legitimate UK pharmacy must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Look for the premises registration number on the pharmacy's website or in-store, and check it against the official register at pharmacyregulation.org.
Can I use a pharmacy I'm not registered with?▼
Yes — you can take a paper prescription to any pharmacy, and walk-in services like Pharmacy First, flu jabs, or blood pressure checks don't require prior registration with that pharmacy.
What if there's no pharmacy near me?▼
Online pharmacies can deliver NHS and private prescriptions nationwide, often within a day or two, making them a practical option if you live somewhere without easy access to a community pharmacy.
Are opening hours always shown on Pick My Pharmacy?▼
No. We only show hours when we have them on file — we never invent a timetable. Confirm with the pharmacy before you travel, especially evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. NHS 111 can name a pharmacy that is actually open now.
