# Community vs online pharmacies in the UK

In short

A community pharmacy is a walk-in premises. An online or distance-selling pharmacy is registered to supply medicines remotely, usually with UK delivery. Both can be GPhC-registered. Same-day urgent supply, Pharmacy First pathways, and supervised services still need a local counter. Pick My Pharmacy lists both; we do not sell medicines.

Patients often search “pharmacy near me” and “online pharmacy UK” as if they were the same job. They are not. A high-street pharmacy can assess you in person. A distance-selling pharmacy can post a dispensed medicine after a remote check. Some businesses do both. The GPhC register records premises type — we do not invent a delivery promise.

The ones we list as distance-selling or online are GPhC-registered premises on the snapshot we use. Always re-check pharmacyregulation.org. A website that only drop-ships without UK registration is a red flag.

**Can I get Pharmacy First from an online pharmacy?▼**

England’s Pharmacy First pathways are designed around a participating community pharmacy. Do not assume a distance-selling website can run the same seven pathways.

**Are online treatment prices the medicine-only price?▼**

On our treatment pages the figures are the pharmacy’s published treatment-service price where we have one — consultation, medicine, and delivery as they state. Empty cells mean not on file, not a bargain.
